What Would JFK DO?
Ask
Not What Your Country Can Do For You, But What You Can Do For Your
Country. Inaugural Address by John F. Kennedy - January 20th 1961
Medical Marijuana- I have thought long and hard about this subject and I also did a research paper on this a few years back and I have come to a point that I do support the medicinal use of marijuana. I've had many people asking me if I would consider legalizing all drugs and the answer to that is a definite no.
When it comes to Medical Marijuana I do see the benefit it provides to patients, especially people suffering from cancer. If you've ever known anyone going through treatment for cancer then you know how the treatment alone ravages the body and takes away the desire to even eat. If you've ever tried Marijuana then you already know the benefits it creates by taking away pain and increasing the appetite. The FDA can regulate this just as they do with any other drug. When you hear the word Marijuana you think of smoking, but it can be provided in other ways. As we know smoking it has the same effects on the lungs as cigarettes. Pharmaceutical companies can provide this from the form of vapor to a pill. I think as long as it is regulated by the FDA it should be legalized for medical use. There are much more deadlier drugs that are legal by prescription than Marijuana; case in point morphine. You can easily overdose on morphine but no one has ever overdose using marijuana.
Federal Government- The federal government is continuing to overstep it's authority by enacting laws that are unconstitutional. Our privacy, health care, bail outs, states rights, judges that over steps their bounds by legislating from the bench. It's time our country remembers what our founding fathers intended for our country. They never intended for government to have a say in your everyday life, but just think about what part of your life isn't effected by the government. A government that governs least governs best.
We need to get back to what our founders intended our government to be. The Tenth Amendment- The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. This amendment is to ensure the Federal government don't infringe on States rights, but time and time again it happens. All laws deemed unconstitutional should be abolished.
We also need to stop giving money away to other countries. It's ridiculous that we borrow money from China and give it to other countries. If they need money let them ask China for it. We have become a welfare nation with everyone running to us to get a check. It's time for the European countries to give or let those countries borrow from them. We need to take care of our own country first before we start worrying about the rest of the world. It's time to put America first for a change.
We should take a look at how we give grants and loans to non-profits as well. They shouldn't have any political affiliation period. No PACs or union affiliation, and above all no money at all will be spent outside the US and it's territories. We need periodic audits to be preformed to ensure no mishandling of government tax payer funds and every dollar is accounted for. I know this can be accomplished because anyone in congress can attest that every dime in a campaign funds must be accounted for by submitting reports to the Federal Election Commission and it's not hard to audit those reports against receipts and bank statements.
Property Rights- The Fifth Amendment ( Nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation.) Public use Not confiscated then sold to a property developer that will profit after building condos or a strip mall. That's not even close to what James Madison intended as public use. If it's not a public school, road, airport expansion... It shouldn't happen, but we have judges that decide against the intent of this amendment even though it's spelled out in plain English Public Use in no way should any private company be allowed to use this clause to take over private property and argue it's for the public's benefit. A public park or golf course is not what was intended by Madison either.
Balanced Budget- First and foremost our country needs a balanced budget amendment to ensure politicians don't bankrupt our great country. This is for the benefit of all Americans. I want our future generations to live without fear of politicians spending our country into bankruptcy. I can see the future of our economy if Congress doesn't stop spending money we don't have. I will also put in safe guards to ensure our taxes don't go up by future politicians trying to find a way to increase spending by increased taxes.
Term Limits- I believe term limits should be in place for all politicians. We should all follow the same standard as the president. I know that some good politicians would be lost but it would insure the bad ones would have to go as well. Sometimes politicians get removed from the people for so long they forget who they're suppose to be representing. Some start representing the special interest on K St. instead of the people on Main St. That's why I will only serve 8 consecutive years (4 terms) in congress if elected.
High Taxes- People don't mind paying their fair share of taxes, but when you pay 25 cents on every dollar you make, it adds up quickly, not to mention we have one of the highest corporate tax rate in the world at 35%. That does not attract business for our communities.
I would immediately once in office put in legislation that would cut taxes across the board. In order for us to be competitive in the world economy our corporate tax rate needs to be cut from 35% to 25% to be competitive in a global market.
This will attract companies to do business here, and hire Americans to go back to work. It’s simple, the more companies you have, the more tax revenue it will generate. Without these businesses we have no taxes to collect or any jobs for the community. I want to cut taxes for the people and the businesses that employ them. It's better to have four businesses giving 25% tax revenue because they were able to open that business due to lower taxes. Than to have one business giving 35% because it was large enough to stay in business.
We pay enough taxes. The problem is government getting bigger and depending on us to bail them out. Enough big government programs. It's time to cut government spending to adjust to the revenues from our taxes not the other way around.
We also need to address the tax code that in 1913 was only 14 pages. Today the tax code has grown to 67,500 pages and it continues to grow every year. We need a serious debate in congress to scrap the current tax code and come up with a tax plan that ensures everyone pays their far share and close the loop holes that have been created to award some and punish others.
